“Another District VII candidate, Vanessa Perez, said women are finally getting the credit they deserve in their work and leadership roles, and that many are now feeling comfortable and empowered to run for office.“I think the fighting for equal pay and the Me Too movement, all this bringing of attention to adversities women have had to go through, has made people realize that maybe women have been treated like they’re less capable,” Perez said.She said she hopes her daughter and other girls watching along will grow up and feel inspired to compete for positions of power and authority too.”
